Stage 2 Summary

After having to deal with what is expected to be strong coastal winds for most of the opening stage the day before, the peloton is offered no respite on the second stage after the transfer from Langkawi to the starting point in Kangar. The stage will bring the peloton towards the picturesque padi fields with roads open to strong crosswinds on the flattest region in Malaysia.

Stage Two is expected to be one for the sprinters, but breakaways could succeed given the effect of crooswinds on the peloton which ehad from Kangar towards Kodiang, past Tunjang before having to spring into action for the first intermediate sprint at Jitra after 32.4 kilometres of racing. They then head towards the capital city of Kedah, Alor Setar, past Simpang Ampat and Yan. It will be a docile next 50km, providing opprtunities for the brave to attempt escapes before the second intermediate sprint shows up after 83.2km in Guart Chempedak.

The peloton then passes the Northern industrial town of Gurun and Bedong, heading towards Kedah's second largest city, Sungai Petani, where the third intermediate sprint is located after they've covered 111.4km. The next 34km offer either the chance for any breakaways to establish themselves as the main protagonists for the stage win or for the peloton to reinforce themselves and group together in expectation of a bunch sprint at the finish line at Padang Ahmad Badawi in Butterworth.
